Amanda Austin

Adjunct Professor – SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY

Amanda Austin is an organizational psychologist and educator with a master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Harvard University. She combines deep academic knowledge with hands-on experience in HR, leadership, and organizational transformation.

Amanda previously worked in HR at IBM (formerly Dialexa), where she helped navigate the company through an acquisition, and she owned and ran an improv comedy theater for over 11 years, honing her expertise in creativity, collaboration, and team dynamics. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at SMU Cox School of Business, leading the MBA course “Innovation and Change by Design”.

In addition to teaching, Amanda works with organizations through fractional consulting, applying her expertise in building people-focused cultures where collaboration, innovation, and psychological safety are embedded into daily operations. Her work empowers teams to thrive, enhancing engagement, performance, and well-being across organizations of all sizes.
